Côte Brasserie, Cheltenham

New restaurants are popping up all over Cheltenham in recent months, with some great independent places and the best of the chains we really are spoilt for choice.

One of the new additions is Côte, located in a prime spot at the top of Montpellier. The menu takes inspiration from French dining and includes a handful of brasserie favourites – there is pretty much something for everyone.

There are several menus to choose from with the A La Carte, the Specials and the Lunch/Early dinner set menu which goes up until 7pm. With three courses on offer for £11.95 I made it my mission to dash straight from my train journey home and make it just in time to take advantage.

The interior has a Parisian feel with the dark wood features and flooring. The front of the restaurants is adorned with large windows, making it feel light and airy.

As we’d settled on the set menu, I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the portions of each course. To start I opted for the Ratatouille, piled high above a piece of chargrilled bread adding a great flavour to the dish. Steph went for Frisée and bacon lardon salad with a perfectly cooked warm poached egg.

For mains with both went for the salmon fishcakes, which came with a spinach salad and a wholegrain mustard sauce. Worried that I may go hungry I also asked for a side of potatoes, which in hindsight was not needed.

And finally, finding just enough room we picked out some puds. We went for some classics with a creme caramel and the an apple crumble.

The set menu is amazingly good value, with a varied choice and the food couldn’t be faulted. Having been open over a month now, the place is still popular having witnessed people being turned away on a Wednesday evening. Book up early if you don’t want to be disappointed.
